CA Foundation Course is the 1st ladder in the journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant. There are 4 CA Foundation subjects that you are going to study at this level namely, Accounting, Business Laws, Mathematics, and Economics. are divided into these four papers. The CA Foundation subjects focus on the basic developments of the candidates as a CA. This also helps them understand the basic tasks and the demands of the exams. CA Foundation Subjects for May 2022 exams
Paper-1: Principles and Practices of Accounting
Principles and Practices of Accounting is the first CA Foundation paper. You will find the basics of Accounting in this paper along with the topics in Accounts. The topics and the concepts taught by this paper are almost similar to that one studies in Accounts of Class 11 and 12. Hence, this paper or subject is easier for the students with Commerce background as they have already studied it.
Paper 1 comprises the theoretical framework of accounting, process, inventories, partnership accounts, introduction to Company Accounts, etc.
Paper-2: Business Laws and Business Correspondence and Reporting
Paper 2 comprises Business Laws and Business Correspondence & Reporting. This CA Foundation subject is full of lengthy and theoretical topics and hence divided into two parts:
- Section A: Business Laws
- Section B: Business Correspondence and Reporting.
This subject focuses on business laws and corporate laws. This paper requires great understanding, so students should have the capability to remember the topics for a longer time. Students must cover the entire theory portion of this paper at least two months before the exam. This is done to have enough time to revise.
Paper-3: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning and Statistics
The third ICAI Foundation subject is Business Mathematics, Logical Reasoning and Statistics, which is also divided into three sections.
- Part-A: Business Mathematics
- Part-B: Logical Reasoning
- Part-C: Statistics
This paper focuses on developing and checking the students’ basic mathematics, statistical, and reasoning abilities. It helps the students understand the applications of Economics, Finance, and business.
The Business Mathematics portion is 40 marks, whereas logical reasoning is 20 marks and statistics covers 40 marks. You will learn basic maths in the maths syllabus, including calculus, permutations & combinations, ratios, etc.
Paper-4: Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge
Business Economics and Business and Commercial Knowledge is the fourth paper of the CA Foundation. This subject is based on Business Economics and its applications and is divided into two parts.
- Section A: Business Economics
- Section B: Business and Commercial Knowledge
CA Foundation Paper Pattern
As you know, there are 4 CA Foundation subjects and each of which is 100 marks. Hence the total marks in the foundation exams come out to be 400. In this, Paper 1 and 2 are subjective, whereas paper 3 and paper 4 are objective types. Moreover, the subjective papers do not have any negative markings, but there is 0.25 negative marking in objective papers.
The candidates get the chance to appear in CA Foundation Exam twice in the year since ICAI conducts it in November and May. CA Foundation Exam is conducted in both mediums, such as English and Hindi. So, you can fill your preference in the examination form either to give exam in English or Hindi medium. To qualify for the next stage of the CA Course, students must score 40% in each subject. Preparation Tips for the CA Foundation Subjects
The CA Foundation subjects are not difficult to prepare, however, students will need a proper strategy to clear them in the first attempt.
